Several people were injured today when unknown men attacked the convoy of Mandera Governor Ali Roba on the Arabia-Omar Jilo road.

The attackers fired a bazooka at the convoy and hit one of the vehicles on the road between Nafey and Imo. The governor’s vehicle had already passed the area and he was safe. He was on his way to Wargadud for a function. Militant group Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility.

Two vehicles in the convoy and its occupants went missing after the attack. The attack happened a few kilometres from Arabia, where 28 people travelling in a bus were killed by Al-Shabaab terrorists on November 22, 2014.

This is not the first time Mr Roba’s motorcade has been attacked. In October last year, his bodyguard was injured in an attack on his motorcade. Mr Roba was heading to his Mandera Town office in a convoy of four vehicles when an improvised explosive device went off, damaging one of the vehicles.
