Father puts kidney on sale to raise Ksh4m for son’s medical bill

A father has offered to sell his kidney to raise funds to pay Ksh4 million in medical bills and have his son’s body released by an Eldoret-based hospital for burial.

Mr Joseph Ofisi, 67, from Segero, Nambale Sub County says he is unable to raise the money and has no other source of income, the Star reports. “Although my health has deteriorated since my son passed on at Medi Hill Hospital in Eldoret on March 27, I better remain with one kidney than being traumatised by the spirits of my son at the mortuary,” Mr Ofisi said.

He said while the hospital is willing to waive Ksh2m, he had managed to raise only Ksh35,000 and called on willing buyers to come forward. “The one acre piece of land I have cannot raise the required amount.”

His son Quinto Mayunga, a boda boda operator, had been admitted at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit since March 17, 2015, after being hit by a tractor. He has behind a widow and six children.

Mr Ofisi called asked police to track down the tractor that hit Mayunga and sped off.
