Traders packaging alcohol as milk to evade arrest

Traders of second generation alcohol in Kirinyaga County are changing tact to evade the crackdown on illicit brew by security officers. A spot check by KNA revealed that some manufacturers are packaging the alcohol into polythene papers to pass off as milk.

Bar operators, who have removed the products from bar shelves and are instead storing the alcohol in flasks and sold to customers as “hot water”.

Chairperson of the county’s Liquor Licensing Board, Nyamu Mwaura said he had received information that some traders are also packaging illicit alcohol into containers of licensed products and selling it.

Kirinyaga central deputy commissioner Joshua Marete warned that anyone found selling illicit alcohol trade will be arrested and prosecuted.
