Prepare for hard life during President Obama’s visit to Kenya. The government has warned that there would be traffic interruptions in the city to pave the way for the American leader’s motorcade, but maintained that normal operations will continue at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Most affected will be users of Mombasa Road, City centre, parts of Westlands and Parklands.
Mr Obama is expected to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport aboard Air Force One and his entourage will later proceed to Gigiri through Mombasa Road and the city centre. His motorcade is expected to include a bulletproof limo known as The Beast and a military ambulance.
“We will be releasing a traffic guide for the day. We know the US head of State will come with a huge motorcade which will inconvenience road users in the city, but we also want to ensure that other operations continue,” said Mr Esipisu.
Security will also be heightened and most city dwellers will have to endure checks and enhanced policing.

President Obama will be in Nairobi from July 24-26 to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, a White House initiative that brings together entrepreneurs and investors from around the world. The event is aimed at showcasing innovative projects, and is expected to attract considerable global attention because of its huge symbolic importance.
According to Mr Esipisu, at least 1,500 investors from all over the world, 250 of them Kenyans, are expected to participate in the summit. He said the meeting, which would link up investors with enterprises, would help in the creation of jobs.
This will be President Obama’s fourth trip to sub-Saharan Africa during his presidency. “I cannot tell you whether President Obama will travel outside Nairobi since the programme on his visit has not been released,” Mr Esipisu said in a press briefing on Sunday.
“The summit will result in bilateral agreements that have the potential to scale-up entrepreneurship in Kenya, more so in the technology and financial service sectors. It will also boost small-scale businesses, especially those run by the youth,” he said.
