30 trapped as building under construction collapses in Kisumu

A shopping Mall under construction  in Kisumu’s  Manyatta estate collapsed today, trapping more than 30 workers, among them women who were ferrying water to the construction site.

The buidling that is said to be an upcoming shopping mall and whose construction is said to have reached the second floor, collapsed at 4 PM as construction work was in progress. A multi-agency team is said to have been at the cite by 7pm co-coordinating rescue efforts. Five people had been retrieved and rushed to hospital.

“We are not sure how many people are in here. We have taken five to hospital and we have been informed that there were 30 workers,” Musa Kongoli, Kisumu OCPD is quoted.
