Kakamega county government is set spend Ksh10 million to construct an outpatient wing as well as women and children wards at Malava Sub-County Hospital. The hospital will also get modern medical equipment.

Area MP Malulu Injendi said the hospital lacks basic facilities despite being upgraded to Level 5. “The hospital lacks basic necessities including drugs as they are stolen,” the MP said.

Deputy Governor Philip Kutima said Medical Advisory Board recommended the facility to be rehabilitated to modern standards. “We plan to upgrade the hospital to address emergency cases,” he said.

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said in a month’s time, equipment worth Ksh100 million will be purchased to be used for cancer and diabetic patients, and for ICU services.

Meanwhile, Shirugu/Muigai Ward Rep Albert Wetundu has blamed the police for failing to provide security. “We have police officers who rob people by pretending to be inspecting,” he said.
