Kenya Airways will resume normal flight schedule to Dar-es-Salaam on Thursday. This follows the amicable resolution of the Bilateral Air Services Agreements (BASA) between Kenya and Tanzania.
The airline had reduced its flights to the Tanzanian city from 42 to 14 last week following a communication by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority to its Kenyan counterpart regarding the BASA. Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mbuvi Ngunze expressed the airlines appreciation to the two Governments for the expeditious resolution of all the pending issues.
Mr Mbuvi added that Kenya Airways remains committed to playing its role in promoting regional economic growth and working with all stakeholders in achieving this goal.
Under the deal, Tanzania tour operators will now access JKIA. The deal was reached after a meeting between Presidents Uhuru and Jakaya Kikwete on Saturday in Windhoek, Kenya’s foreign secretary Amina Mohammed, said yesterday.
The two heads of States discussed the decision by Kenya’s Ministry of Tourism to bar Tanzanian registered vehicles from accessing the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the decision by Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority to reduce the frequency of Kenya Airways flights operating between Kenya and Tanzanian airports.
