Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has finally unleashed a list of the names behind the controversial company that has grabbed Lang’ata Primary School playground.
The names, according to the CS, are Mandip Singh Amrit, Manjit Singh Amrit, Harbans Singh Amrit and Kamal Prakash Amrit. They are believed to be the directors of Airport View Housing Ltd, the company at the centre of the storm, which had planned to put up a shopping mall on the children’s playground.
The names are expected to cause fury among opponents of the land-grab and scepticism among Kenyans who believe there is a powerful force in government behind the controversial piece of land.
The Lang’ata Primary School land came into the limelight after Airport View erected a perimeter wall around the playground, prompting protests from the school management, activists and local political leaders.
Matters came to ahead on Monday when a demonstration involving pupils and activists turned chaotic when policemen guarding the plot unleashed violence and tear-gassed placard-carrying children.
The deputy president’s name has featured in the matter and the Mrs Ngilu may have to dig deeper to unmask the real owner of Airport View.
