Nkaissery gives land grabber 24-hour ultimatum

Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government Joseph Nkaissery has given the private developer claiming ownership of the disputed Lang’ata Primary School playground 24 hours to bring down the remaining wall.

The controversial land belonging to the school was on the spot after police tear-gassed a group of schoolchildren who were protesting the loss of their playground to a private land developer on Monday. This created an uproar and the police were at the receiving end of a scathing attack by Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) who, using the hash tag #OccupyPlayGround vented their emotions blaming the police for the callous actions.

The protesters, led by Kibra MP Kenneth Okoth and Boniface Mwangi, knocked down part of the perimeter wall and when the CS arrived at the scene on Tuesday morning he gave an ultimatum to the private land developer.

Giving his personal apologies to the schoolchildren injured in the discordance, Nkaissery said: “This land is a school property and I’m giving the private developer up to 24 hours to bring down the remaining wall.”

The land in question is adjacent to Weston Hotel and documents from the lands ministry shows that it belongs to the school.
