71 people in court for mocking ‘Kidero grass’

At least 70 people were arrested earlier today by for alleged littering and dumping in Nairobi by Governor Evans Kidero new team of city watchdogs.

Dr Kidero has certainly had enough of the mockery about the grass popularly known as ‘Kidero Grass’ and his environmental monitoring and enforcement team took 71 offenders to court where they were charged with various offenses. including stepping on the grass.

The Nairobi City County Government’s Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement group was launched last week to maintain law and order.  According to Dr.Kidero, the offenders were taken to court and charged. “The offenders appeared before the City Principle Magistrate M.W Njagi. Most of the offenders were arrested on grounds of refusing to comply with last weeks’ notice issued against illegal dumping and littering.”

The Governor had informed City residents about the team and urged pedestrians to comply with city bylaws. “As communicated last week the cost of restoring Nairobi is bearing heavily on the NCCG and we will do all within our powers to ensure sanity is brought back to this great city” he said. “Please avoid littering and dumping illegally and ensure to only use designated pathways or else you will meet the same consequences.”

The beautification programme cost the council Ksh40 Million and those found stepping on the grass would be fined at least Ksh2, 000 in revised city by-laws.
