The Star newspaper has dared degraded political analyst Mutahi Nguyi to sue it for alleging that he was paid by the National Youth Service nearly Ksh40 million.
This is what the newspaper wrote today in its Corridors of Power column.
Ten months after Mutahi Ngunyi (circled above) threatened to sue the Star for stating that he was paid Sh38 million by the National Youth Service, an amount he said was “too little” compared to what he actually received, it seems the analyst-cum-consultant is still deeply involved in NYS.
So deeply involved that when President Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the much-delayed NYS passing out parade yesterday, Ngunyi sat on the VIP dais, a few feet away behind the President. Ngunyi credits his company – The Consulting House – with developing a five-point vision strategy for the NYS. Although he didn’t say exactly how much he was paid and didn’t fulfil his threat to sue, Ngunyi said his company was contracted and delivered entirely aboveboard.
Still on the NYS, the circumstances that led to the five-month delay of yesterday’s graduation are slowly coming to light. Corridors has been told the boots that the NYS officers wore yesterday were “borrowed” from other forces as the Service could not get its own.
Our moles claim that the delay was caused by a lack of ceremonial uniforms and spades after tenders were cancelled amidst the multimillion-shilling scandal that hit the NYS last year. Corridors has been told that after the tenders were cancelled, some ‘tenderpreneurs’ who were irked by the decision went to extraordinary lengths to ensure the new suppliers could not get the material required to make the uniforms, as a way of forcing the process to become even more expensive.
