Richard Chacha, the long-serving NTV journalist, is leaving the station this month. Mr Chacha, who is currently NTV’s political editor, uses a wheel-chair to move around (see photo, right) after a bad accident two years ago in which his boss, Mr Linus Kaikai, and number of other journalists were also injured when the car they were using rolled.

The accident happened in 2012 when the team of Nation Media Group journalists were on their way back to Nairobi from Narok after a fundraiser. Others who were involved in the accident were Ephantus Mwangi, Frida Kirema and Emmanuel Talam.

Mr Chacha, who was the driver of Mr Kaikai’s Prado TX, the most affected. He has never walked after accident which left him paralysed from the waist downwards, but he retained his great voice and job. He had to seek further treatment in India.

There is speculation that Mr Chacha has been fired for not being productive due to his condition.

Speaking to BUSINESS TODAY, he confirmed he was indeed leaving NTV, but on his volition. “No one has sacked me,” said Mr Chacha on phone. “As we speak I am at work at Nation Centre. But I’m leaving by the end of this month at my own volution.”

He promised to give further details when he leaves, but he had hinted on his Facebook page late April that he was changing careers. “Time to switch career gears,” he said without giving more information.
