Just like a bad cup of coffee can ruin your morning and a bad hair day can ruin your day, sleeping on a bad mattress can ruin your sleep. From suffering back and neck pain to coming down with allergies and colds, sleeping on a bad mattress can take a toll on the quality of your sleep and your health.
Discover these five signs that indicate you’re sleeping on a bad mattress, so you can kick it to the dumpsite and get the amazing sleep you deserve.
1. Your mattress is more than 10 years old
Mattresses typically have a lifetime of 7-10 years. If your mattress is older than a decade, it has lost much of the support and comfort it once had, and you are no longer getting the quality of sleep that you deserve.
2. Your mattress is uncomfortable
A good mattress should be so comfortable that you fall asleep on it with ease. But if you toss and turn all night and find yourself getting a better sleep at your desk than on your own bed, it’s time to replace your bad mattress.
3. Your mattress is lumpy
The mattress you sleep on should be in tip-top shape. It should not have any damage. So, if your mattress has gotten lumpy or shows other signs of old age, it’s definitely a bad mattress.

4. You wake up with neck and back pain
The mattress you sleep on shouldn’t cause you any discomfort, especially neck pain or back pain. If so, it could mean that your mattress isn’t providing your spine with enough support.
5. You wake up with a stuffy nose
If your allergies act up when you’re in bed, or you wake up with a stuffy nose, your mattress is probably dirty and dusty. After years of use, your mattress collects dust, dust mites, bacteria and other microbes that could make you sick and put your health at risk. A good mattress won’t do that.
