Electronics giant, Samsung is betting its future on an idea that home appliance can be interconnected to better serve humans.

The ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) has been a big buzzword in the tech industry for the past few years, but there hasn’t been a mass adoption of connected-home products.

But now Samsung’s President and CEO Boo-Keun Yoon has announced that the concept was the company’s next growth frontier. By 2017, all Samsung televisions will be IoT devices, and in five years all Samsung hardware will be IoT-ready, further accelerating the expansion of IoT, said Mr Yoon.

The company, he said will invest more than US$100 million in its developer community in 2015.

The CEO was delivering the opening keynote speech at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) said the IoT has the potential to transform the society, economy and way of life.

Under such concept, future products will be connected to the internet and able to communicate with one another.
