Kenya News. TUKO.co.ke has become the number one news and entertainment website barely two years after being set up by global consumer internet company, Genesis Technologies. A mix of trending local news, viral content, gossip and entertainment has seen the website rise over traditional leaders of the digital space like Citizen TV and Standard online.

TUKO.co.ke now hold position 3 after YouTube and Google as the most popular sites in Kenya, as ranked by Alexa. What this means is that more Kenyans have fallen in love with TUKO’s way of presenting information and news. According to TUKO.co.ke’s chief editor Ramenya Gibendi, the rapid growth is a combination of hard work and world-class technical support from its parent firm, Genesis Technologies.

“We have access to some of the best technology support from our headquarters and our model of presenting news and information has proved to be successful,” he said. The rapid rise of TUKO comes at a time when most traditional media houses are trying to shift to digital news presentation as audience preferences shift.

Nation Media Group recently re-aligned its editorial team while firing some staff as it repositions itself to tap into the many Kenyans who consume their news on mobile devices. Standard Group is investing heavily in digital while Radio Africa Group has made digital its key media platform.

The latest development will definitely put TUKO in a better position over its peers to compete for advertisements in the country. Alexa ranking is the only known universal and standard tool that most marketers and advertisers use to determine how big and influential a website is.
