EatOut and Beans is How have launched #BeansOnTheMenu initiative in Nairobi.
The campaign will be unveiled during the highly anticipated Nairobi Burger Week, promoting the inclusion of beans in restaurant deals across the city.
The #BeansOnTheMenu initiative aims to transform the culinary landscape in Kenya by encouraging restaurants to incorporate beans into their dishes.
“We are thrilled to partner with Beans is How to bring the #BeansOnTheMenu initiative to life during Nairobi Burger Week. This collaboration not only celebrates the culinary creativity of our chefs but also promotes healthier and more sustainable food choices for our community,” Mikul Shah, Director EatOut, says.
By partnering with restaurants, chefs, and food enthusiasts, this campaign seeks to elevate beans as a way to encourage healthier and more sustainable food choices. The initiative will feature a series of events, meal promotions, and educational programs.
“Beans are a climate-smart powerhouse of nutrition, but they are in need of a rebrand. By incorporating them into popular dishes like burgers, and partnering with EatOut and top restaurants, chefs, and influencers across the country, we can get people excited about this humble but incredible food group. We are thrilled to be embarking on a shared journey with EatOut to support the transformation towards more sustainable, healthy diets in Nairobi and beyond,” Kristin Gutekunst, Campaign Director at Beans is How, says.
“Beans are a humble yet powerful ingredient, capable of transforming a dish with their rich flavours and nutritional benefits. This collaboration allows us to reimagine the classic burger, infusing it with elegance and depth. I am thrilled to present these gourmet creations during Nairobi Burger Week, showcasing the sophistication and versatility that beans can bring to the table,” Chef Pischler, co-founder of Black Aprons, says.
Beans are a nutritional powerhouse, rich in protein, fiber, and vitamins and minerals including potassium, iron, and B vitamins like folate. They are also a sustainable crop, able to fix nitrogen into the soil, requiring less water and generating a smaller carbon footprint compared to other protein sources. By integrating beans into their menus, restaurants can offer healthier choices to their patrons while supporting local farmers and contributing to environmental conservation.
“This collaboration between EatOut and Beans is How is a natural fit, as both organizations share a commitment to promoting healthy, sustainable food choices. The #BeansOnTheMenu initiative will debut during Nairobi Burger Week, a popular annual event that celebrates the art of burger making and brings together food enthusiasts from across the city,” the two organisations stated.
Participating restaurants will feature unique bean-based burger creations on their menus, making beans more visible, accessible, and exciting. Renowned chefs will join the campaign, creating innovative and mouth-watering bean-based dishes that highlight the culinary potential of beans.
Informative materials, cooking demonstrations and interactive events will educate chefs, food service managers and consumers about the many benefits of beans.
