The fairest of them all, Andy Michael Munyiri wants to proceed to Alliance High School after emerging top in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) scoring 440 marks.
It doesn’t end there, he is confident he will remain grounded during his secondary education as he seeks to fulfill his dream of becoming an Automotive Engineer. He is mad about cars, even crazier about engines and will stop at nothing to make his dream a reality.
Speaking after the release of the results on Monday, Munyiri attributed his impressive achievement to hard work and support from his family and teachers at Damacrest Primary School, Thogoto.
“I am excited and extremely happy for being the top candidate. I was expecting good marks but not to emerge top. I want to thank God and the teachers for my preparing me adequately for this challenge. A lot of gratitude to my family too for going out of their way to supporting me,” said the top candidate.
Munyiri’s performance is even more impressive considering that he has been raised by his grandparents Francis Munyiri Ndirangu and Margaret Muthoni Munyiri after their grandchild’s parents sought greener pastures and university education abroad.
The elated grandparents were so proud of their kin that they could not hide their joy, grin written all over their face and fulfillment manifesting itself in their voices.
“I want to thank God for the beautiful day he has made. He has fought the battle for Andy right from nursery school until now when his hard work has bee rewarded,” said Ms. Ndirangu.
” I am elated about what our grandchild has been able o achieve. I would like to ask him not to rest on his laurels, that he picks up where he left when he gets to secondary school,” said an overjoyed Francis Munyiri Ndirangu, Andy’s grandfather.
Second Candidate
Three pupils tied at the second position and June Chepkoech Cheptoo, daughter to The Standard Newspaper writer and Sports Editor Jonathan Komen sees the results as a culmination of years of hard work.
June of Sangalo Central Primary School, Nandi together with Flavian Onyango of Chakol Primary School and Sean Micheal Ndung’u of Kitengela International Primary School tied at second position after scoring 439 marks.
“I feel great, I did not expect to claim second spot. I projected that I would get 420-430 marks. Managing what I have got is a blessing from God and I would really like to thank everyone that helped me get here starting with my parents, my teachers as well as my friends,” said Chepkoech while speaking to journalists.
Chepkoech wants to proceed to Pangani Girls Secondary School and wants to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a journalist, she also harbours dreams of becoming an actress.
But it has not been always smooth sailing for her once she enrolled at Sangalo Central, the start was rocky.
“In my first two tests, I emerged fifth and then tenth which I later attributed to laxity but I regrouped and started working towards what I wanted to achieve,” said an ecstatic Chepkoech.
Jonathan Komen was over the moon with his daughter’s exploits and recalled the road to making June one of Kenya’s finest.
“I feel so proud of my daughter that my daughter worked so hard to secure second position. Getting here takes a lot of investment, buying books, I thought she would be among the top 20 but I didn’t see it coming when it was announced that she was second in the country,” said Komen.
“She loves reading books and I remember confirming beyond reasonable doubt that she is talented when she penned an article for The Standard which she pushed me to get it published,”added Komen.
