The modern-day television experience includes high resolutions that minimize the grainy graphics that can be experienced in some of the old TVs.

It is why OLED screens, which ensure that a screen illuminates each individual pixel on the screen rather than lighting all of them at once, is being revamped over and over again.

It is with this that Sony has introduced the A8F series, with the electronics company saying its innovators have refined the 4K HDR picture quality.

Branded KD-55A8 (55 inches) and KD-65A8 (65 inches), the new Sony TV series are available for Ksh399,000 and Ksh650,000 respectively.

The move comes after Sony introduced the 4K HDR OLED TV under the Bravia range in 2017.

What is 4K HDR OLED?

4K refers to the resolution panel, which is calculated as 3840×2160, giving a total of over 8 million pixels on display, four times the number of pixels in a traditional 1080 HD panel.

HDR on the other hand refers to a panel that tries to portray colours in a more realistic way by using colour palettes that are more diverse than normal RGB palette. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range.

OLED meanwhile is the Organic Light-Emitting Diode, and is the lighting technology used in the backlight of TVs, as well as other electronics such as mobile phones and laptops.

Through its innovative One Slate design, the 4K HDR OLED TV was able to blend together exceptional picture quality and immersive sound coming directly from the screen itself via another innovation trademarked under the ‘Acoustic Surface’ technology name.

The A8F series is Sony building on these innovations. According to Sony, the new series produces an incredibly detailed picture with deep blacks, rich and realistic colours and an exceptionally wide viewing angle.
