Standard Group newspaper division is on the verge of losing two key reporters who have resigned and now serving notice. It’s understood that Moses Nyamori and Daniel Psirmoi – who cover politics/ National Assembly and Senate respectively – have reportedly quit in a huff for greener pastures and due to work-related stress.
The two are both graduates of the inaugural Standard Group Scribes Inc Training Program, an inhouse mentorship master-class modeled on the defunct Nation Media Group’s Media Lab, aimed at developing its own talent.
Nyamori, who had established himself as an authority in covering politics with his vast networks in the opposition party ODM is understood to be headed to The Star Newspaper, which recently lost four journalists, one of them, Kamore Maina, to the Standard.

The Star newspaper is understood to have given him a lucrative package, according to sources at Radio Africa Group, which owns the newspaper. Nyamori started as an intern at the Standard newspaper’s Eldoret bureau before being incorporated into the Scribes Inc.
Psirmoi, on the other hand, is oh his way to join Parliament on a three-year contract, attached to the Senate as media relations officer for Speaker Ken Lusaka. Those who worked with Psirmoi, who in 2017 unsuccessfully tried his hand in politics by contesting for an MCA seat in his rural home in Mt Elgon, say he may have changed his mind about working in the newsroom after the loss.
Psirmoi worked as correspondent for Standard based in Bungoma from December 2012 after clearing university. He got into the limelight after breaking the story of 18 girls falling pregnant at Chepkurkur primary school in Mt Elgon.
Insiders say when the two joined the journalists training programme in December 2014, they were promised permanent employment after the one-year training. But that never happened after the human resources manager Pauline Kiraithe, who had initiated the programme, left the company.
They are said to have been handed one-year contracts renewable for 2015, 16 and 17, but got finally employed at the beginning of this year.
