Brand Kenya Board has fired almost the entire senior management. The shake-up has been executed by the board, lead by Mary Luseka, sending home over 14 managers over the past few months.

Sources at the state corporation based at NHIF Building in Nairobi say tension is high at the board with most offices deserted. “It’s quiet here and everyone is scared,” said a staff at the board who survived the sacking.

It’s understood that 10 senior managers were sacked few days ago, while four were pushed out late last year. Those sent home include, among others, marketing Director Dr Nzilu Musyoki, communications director Wanjiru King’ara, the human resources manager as well as procurement manager.

The reason for the massive shake-up is not yet clear but insiders point to house-cleaning by the new CEO. Ms Luseka was appointed in March last year to replace Mary Kimonye who had served in the board for six years since its inception.

Such restructuring moves are normal in government-run organisations, especially parastatals when a new CEO comes on board. It’s is aimed at having people the CEO feels can be trusted and share his or her vision, even though it is often abused by many to staff organisations with their friends and relatives.

Brand Kenya Board wasestablished in March 2008 and mandated to put in place an integrated coordinating mechanism for building and enhancing the country’s image and national identity and rallying its citizens behind it.

Its activities have been geared towards rallying citizens towards a common goal in order to inspire pride and patriotism while promoting Kenya’s image locally and internationally.
