A Dandora man, Amos Ochieng, was on Monday, October 26, 2026, arraigned at the JKIA Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court on five counts, including deliberately withholding a cash windfall of Ksh250,000 wired to his bank account.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says the case started on September 4, 2026, after the complainant realized that the cash credit had fallen into the wrong hands.

Wilson Airport detectives tracked the cash transfer and secured a court order under JKIA Miscellaneous Criminal Application No. E184 of 2026 to investigate the recipient’s bank account.

“The probe established that the suspect had withdrawn Sh150,000 in three instalments before the bank blocked the remaining balance,” DCI says. “As a result, detectives launched a manhunt for the suspect, who was eventually trailed and arrested at his hideout near Total Petrol Station in Dandora on October 23, 2026.”

The suspect pleaded guilty to all five counts and was convicted accordingly. He remains in custody as he awaits sentencing on November 17, 2026.

Many people wonder what to do when an unexpected financial windfall lands in their bank account. However, detectives say keeping it is a crime. Section 35 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018, criminalizes the intentional withholding of an electronic payment delivered in error.

That means anyone who receives money mistakenly ought to notify their financial services provider as soon as possible, and engage the official reversal process.

“An erroneous credit is not a licence to spend,” DCI says.
