Royal Media Services IS in the spotlight once again after Sonko Rescue Team staff demonstrated against an alleged fake story published on Citizen TV website indicating the volunteers were on strike over unpaid salaries.
The Sonko Rescue Team volunteers protested from the city’s Central Business District up to Kilimani outside the head offices of Royal Media Services, according to reports by Kenya-Today. They accused Citizen TV editors of being used by cartels linked to former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to sabotage current governor Mike Sonko’s administration.
The protesters demanded an apology from Citizen TV for claiming that they haven’t been paid their dues for the last 8 months. Citizen Digital had reported that a group of youth working under the Sonko Rescue team had staged demonstrations on Tuesday morning to protest unpaid salaries.
The about 120 workers, according to the report, camped outside Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s City Hall offices claiming they had not been paid for the last eight months.

In a quick rejoinder on the same day, Sonko termed the claims by Citizen TV as “malicious, far fetched and obviously fake news” adding that he has already paid SRT members all their allowances contrary to the hyped story which was widely shared on the social media by Citizen TV editors.
“We have never missed our daily allowances since we started volunteering for SRT and we’ll continue to volunteer with hopes of being absorbed in bits by the Nairobi County government when vacancies arise,” said Hillary Mwende a member of the group.
“We want those who are blackmailing us to cause a rift between the SRT members and governor Sonko that they won’t succeed because the boss has been very cooperative with us even after we offered to volunteer in his Operation Ngarisha Jiji,” said John Mwangi a member of the group.
