More than 450,000 aspirants are set to battle for grassroots leadership positions as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) conducts its Repeat Phase II grassroots elections across 18 counties on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

According to a party media brief, the massive number of candidates will be contesting for different positions at polling centre level, representing diverse groups including women, youth, special interest groups, farmers, professionals, religious leaders, and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The elections will take place in counties across Nyanza, Western, Eastern, Coast and northern Kenya, including Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Bungoma, Makueni, Machakos, Kitui, Isiolo, Marsabit, Taita Taveta, Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa and Turkana. Kajiado County will hold its exercise separately on April 25.

The high number of aspirants reflects growing political interest at the grassroots level, with the party positioning the exercise as a key step in strengthening internal democracy and expanding its reach nationwide.

UDA estimates that about eight million voters will participate in the exercise across more than 9,000 polling centres, underscoring the scale of the elections.

To manage the process, the party has deployed technology, including 9,500 electronic voting tablets, with results expected to be transmitted and made publicly accessible through its online portal.

Voting will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the exercise expected to yield over 182,000 grassroots officials who will form the backbone of the party’s local structures.

The repeat elections follow earlier successful grassroots polls in 25 counties, as UDA continues to consolidate its presence across the country ahead of future political contests.
