University Academic Staff Union (UASU) National Secretary General Dr Constantine Wasonga has said they will not accept any negotiations until the 2013-2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is implemented and signed.

Wasonga declared that this time round they will not call off the strike until the lecturers’ demands are met.

He was speaking  Monday at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) UASU offices when officially welcomed UASU members from the institution into the lecturers’ ongoing nationwide strike.

Wasonga called on all public university academic staff to be united during the strike and terminate their services until money is deposited into the lecturers’ bank accounts.

Wasonga said the government had failed to negotiate with them during the 21-day notice, which the union had issued to them.

“We are asking the government where the Ksh 5.2 billion which was agreed on earlier in the year is as it is still is not reflecting on our bank accounts,” he added.

UASU TUK chapter secretary Jacob Musembi said the strike is irrevocable and called for a serious dialogue with the national government on the two CBAs.

Musembi said university dons are underpaid and lack money for research. He called on the government to intervene before the higher education sector collapses.

The union called the strike now on its sixth day demanding implementation of the 2013-2017collective bargaining Agreement (CBA) and negotiation of 2017-2021 CBA.
