E-commerce platform Jumia Kenya kicked off Black Friday with a bang registering up to 3,000 orders in the first hour.

3 lucky Jumia customers who were the biggest reapers from the first Black Friday flash sale as they each purchased a motorcycle for a meagre Sh 100. The first Boda Boda customers to buy motorbikes from Car and General at Sh 100 were from Kajiado, Nairobi and Mukuru Kwa Njenga.

Black Friday offers on Jumia are set to run till November 29th and the company promises more crazy offers during the period. Among other deals, there will be goats and chicken going for Sh 1000 and Sh 100 respectively. There will also be smartphone flash sales at Sh 100.

During the three weeks of Jumia Black Friday, customers will enjoy savings of up to 90% on some of the 10 million products listed on the site.

Kabras 2kg sugar which was retailing at Sh 50 was the best selling product closely followed by 2kg Unga at Sh 72 then hand washing powder and Television sets.

Speaking to the press this morning, Jumia Kenya CEO Sam Chappatte noted that the campaign started on an exciting note.

“Customers from all over the country logged onto our site at midnight to join us for the launch of Blak Friday 2019. With 100s of orders in the first minutes, from all over the country, it was an exciting moment. There will be more great deals and daily surprises for everyone during the three weeks,” he noted.

There will be flash sales every single day throughout the annual saving event and customers are likely to get more crazy offers. Fridays will be the biggest Jumia days as there will be 8 flash sales spread out through the day. There are only four flash sales from Monday to Friday.

The biggest flash day dubbed the Mega flash sale will happen every day at 9 am. Some flash sales will be done at Jumia pick up stations to help Kenyans who do not own smartphones participate in the biggest save of the year.

This year’s Black Friday is expected to be the most inclusive yet, following the reduction in delivery fees across the country & with delivery capacity increases, thanks to the partnerships with Posta & Wells Fargo.
