Juan Seco has been named as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jumia Kenya replacing seasoned tech exec Betty Mwangi. Jumia noted in a statement that Mwangi would be leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Seco has taken on different roles at Jumia Group since joining the company four years ago. Up until his appointment as CEO of Jumia Kenya, he was the SVP – Consumer services at JumiaPay.
Seco will have an understanding of Jumia Kenya thanks to his a stint at the company between February 2015 and August 2017. He was responsible for all financial aspects and reporting of Jumia’s ventures in the country, including Jumia, Jumia Travel (Jovago), Jumia Food (Hellofood), Jumia House (Lamudi), Jumia Services and Jumia Deals.
He then moved to financial services platform JumiaPay, where as SVP he was responsible for all consumer-related services. His roles at JumiaPay included strategic initiatives related to consumers including P2P solutions, Buy Now Pay Later, as well as virtual and physical cards.

Mwangi who joined in December 2021 leaves less than a year after joining Jumia Kenya as CEO. She has previously worked as Commercial Director at Britam and Financial Services Director at Safaricom, helming M-Pesa as it snowballed into a giant.
Prior to joining Jumia, Seco earned experience at PwC and KPMG where he served as Transaction Services Manager and Director respectively.
He has a Bachelors degree in Commerce from Canada’s McGill university.
