Groceries were the best selling item on Jumia during the Black Friday discount shopping season, statistics released by the e-commerce giant reveal.

The data also shows that sports and fitness apparel was the second most ordered item on the site followed by fashion and accessories.

TVs and sound electronics were the fourth most popular category while home appliances recorded the fifth-highest number of sales even as the company posted 100 million page views during the month-long shopping event and 9 billion page views in 2019.

Conversely, over 30% of orders made during Black Friday across all countries were paid through JumiaPay showing a growing preference for digital payment solutions.

Three million packages were delivered during the campaign period that run from November 8 to November 29 with approximately 33% of the packages delivered in less than 24 hours.

The campaign mobilized over 5,000 full-time staff and provided employment for more than 50,000 people indirectly; through vendors and logistics partners.

In addition, there were about 42,000 active consultants participating in the campaign compared to 20,000 during the same period in 2018.
