Former KISS FM radio presenter Caroline Mutoko has launched a new initiative to mentor young leaders.
Through the Caroline Mutoko Leadership Award, the media manager will sponsor a young Kenyan to attend the One Young World Summit 2017 in Bogota, Colombia.
Lasting connections
At the One Young World Summit, the best young leaders, counselled by the world’s most influential business, political and humanitarian leaders, formulate and share innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing issues.
One Young World is a global forum for young leaders aged 18-30. It brings together the best young minds from around the world and empowers them to make lasting connections and develop solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues.
Previous summits have been held in London, Zurich, Pittsburgh, Johannesburg, Dublin, Bangkok and Ottawa.

Ms Mutoko, the chief operating officer at Radio Africa Group, is one of Kenya’s most influential personalities. The winner of the award will attend the Summit alongside Ms Mutoko and other African leaders such as Thuli Madonsela, the former Public Protector of South Africa and Hassan Bubacar Jallow, Chief Justice of the Gambia and former Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
Speaking when she unveiled the award in Nairobi yesterday, Ms Mutoko, who is also a One Young World Counsellor, recounted her personal journey from a no-body to becoming one of the leading lights in media and marketing.

“Everything I am today can be traced back to the people who looked past my age, saw my promise and potential and sort only to bring out the best in me,” she said. “They pushed me, cheered me on and motivated me to do more, to be more. And because I can never pay it back, it’s time to pay it forward.”
Ms Mutoko had a careen on radio spanning over 10 years and now focuses on marketing and business development for Radio Africa Group. She is also a motivational speaker and an ardent lobbyist for women and girls.

- Demonstrate local as well as global knowledge of development challenges
- Be recognized as a leader in your own field or industry
- Be born and raised in Kenya with a commitment to Kenya
- Be able to highlight why youth are so critical for the future of Kenya and Africa
The sponsorship will include a full delegate pass to the summit, set to provide the attendee with a 360 experience in learning, exposure and networking with 1,200 delegates from 196 countries drawn from all industries and sectors.

Caroline Mutoko Leadership Award scholarship will include:
- Access to the One Young World Summit 2017 in Bogotá, Colombia
- Hotel accommodation on a shared basis between 4 October and 7 October
- Catering which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- Transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue.
- Summit hand-outs and support materials.
- The cost of travel to and from Bogotá.
