Telkom has revamped its mobile Voice bundles. The Pawa voice bundles come with added value packs including SMS and mobile Internet Data at competitive price points.

The voice bundle revamp will be unwelcome news for Safaricom and Airtel with competition in the telco business already high.

Data from the Communications Authority for the quarter ending June, 2020, for the financial year 2019/2020, shows that Telkom’s outgoing voice traffic rose from 486.7 million minutes, posted in the previous quarter, to 524.2 million minutes in that quarter ending June, 2020.

In a statement, Telkom Director, Marketing Eric Achola noted that SMS and WhatsApp communication are popular among the young audiences who have been actively at home following the prolonged closure of educational institutions due to the current pandemic hence the new direction.

“Many consumers are now making more voice calls as they reach out to their family, friends, and colleagues,” he said.

Recently, Telkom launched the Kaduda 4G device – a series of smart feature phones retailing at accessible price points, enabling more of its customers to have access to additional features and applications not seen in previous Kaduda feature phones released to the market by the company.

The first of three devices is the T-Smart, retailing at Ksh3,100. It runs on KaiOS Technology that supports smart-phone applications like Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube.

The T-Smart will help address the growing demand for competitively-priced Internet-enabled devices.

A rise in demand for more smart devices has been occasioned by the accelerated digital transformation that is being witnessed across the globe, and which has made more people and businesses increasingly adopt the use of automated and digitized platforms.

This digital transformation is particularly important within the telecommunications sector, creating an increased demand for broadband, connectivity, and digital platforms, by individual consumers, corporates, and the public sector.
