Raila’s Multi-Million Hotel in His Kisumu Backyard

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is one of Kenya’s most prominent politicians, having made multiple stabs at the Presidency including a failed bid last year. Outside of the political arena, the Azimio coalition leader continues to be a businessman worth billions of shillings thanks to massive investments in sectors including energy and hospitality.

Odinga, who is currently expanding his hospitality operation with the construction of a Ksh500 million beach resort in Malindi, Kilifi county, is also associated with one of Kisumu’s finest hotels – the Royal City Hotel.

As the luxurious hotel discloses on its website; “The hotel is located at the heart of the ancestral home of the former Prime Minister, the right honorable Raila Amollo Odinga’s land in a serene, quiet and cool environment, best for excursion and tour, with diverse leisure and conference facility, a unique combination of pleasure and business.”

The hotel is one of the most popular in the lakeside city, particularly with high society in the Nyanza region. Besides Odinga, several prominent personalities and leaders have been spotted at the hotel, which has also hosted a number of Kisumu county government events.

The Royal City Hotel – Town includes 49 rooms split up into standard, deluxe and executive rooms. It also incorporates 2 conference halls and a special hall – targeting the meetings, conventions and exhibitions market.

Guests at the hotel enjoy amenities including computerized key cards, air condition, telephone extensions, flat screen TVs with pay tv access, stylish, modern washrooms with hot showers and fast Wi-Fi. The deluxe and executive rooms also include mini-fridges and coffee tables.

The hotel is strategically located only 5.5 kilometres away from the international airport in Kisumu, and also sits in close proximity to Aga Khan Hospital, Inuka hospital, Westend Mall, Tuffoam Mall and Mega Plaza.
