Former Citizen television news anchor Terryanne Chebet has been named the ‘Wonder Woman 2022’ at the prestigious Tally Solutions MSME Awards 2022. The category seeks to celebrate and recognise women entrepreneurs who are chasing their dreams and have redefined businesses.

While accepting the award, Terryanne, a well-known media personality, spoke of the need for capacity building for small businesses, saying access to training and mentorship is one of the biggest contributing factors for her success.

Keyara Botanics is a tech-enabled skincare label that provides “non-toxic and clean skincare solutions” for the whole family. Born out of a need to provide a solution for her daughter’s eczema condition, the business has since expanded to have a range of products that cover facial and hair products for men, women and children.

Keyara Botanics has also been selected as one of the top 10 start-ups by Standard Chartered Women in Tech program for the 2022 cohort. Keyara Organics, founded by Terryanne Chebet in 2014 and launched in June 2016, has been jostling for space in Kenya’s beauty market. Ms Chebet says the beauty line, which includes organic body and hair oils, has become a formidable brand.

Tally’s MSME Honours is an annual recognition platform that identifies MSME heroes that exemplify innovation and celebrate their efforts. It focuses on entrepreneurs, creators, small and new business owners, or independent business leaders.

“We take into account the diversity of such businesses and aim to recognize them at a hyper local level,” Tally Solutions says. “We have raised the bar this year by felicitating outstanding MSMEs across categories globally including India, United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Kenya, and Indonesia.”

Chebet founded Keyara Organics after an unsuccessful search for locally-made organic products to manage her baby girl’s eczema, a medical condition in which patches of skin become rough and inflamed. These blisters cause itching and bleeding, sometimes resulting from a reaction to irritation but more typically having no obvious external cause.

Terryanne has worked for various television stations as presenter and news anchor including KBC, CNBC Africa and Citizen TV. She briefly worked as manager for Fanaka TV owned by politician Moses Kuria.

Her recent TV assignment was at being a manager at Metropol TV, owned by Credit Reference Bureau champion Sam Omukoko.
