Ex Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne has decided to hang around and push the Federation of Kenyan Football to pay him the money they owe.
The French tactician was sacked by FKF supposedly because of poor performances but an article done by Business Today suggests it could have been because of payment issues. As it turns out, Migne actually has unsolved issues with Federation which has partly made him pitch camp in the country.
Migne left the country on Tuesday to France for a medical procedure on his child but marked August 29 as his return date. He said that Kenya is his home now and that he will be around for a while as he hopes to settle his issues with the Federation.
Although he has since declined to disclose the details of his dismissal, Migne trusts that FKF will keep their end of the deal. He also added that there are other options to explore if the Federation fails to keep their end of the bargain.
“The agreement was made in good faith between me and the federation and I did my part. I have all the hope that they will keep their end of the bargain because we sat down and negotiated in good faith,” the former Stars coach said.
“I’m not worried at all about my pay, right now there are mechanisms to resolve such occurrences. There is FIFA and there are other avenues which I can use to pursue but I don’t think it will come to that,” the Frenchman added.
Migne is not the first foreign coach who has had disputes with FKF over unpaid salaries. The Federation is still embroiled in disputes with coaches Bobby Williamson and Adel Amrouche over severance payouts after the federation dismissed them.
Another former Harambee Stars coach Henri Michel stayed in the country hoping that the Federation would come to pay him but it never happened. His tenure as head coach of Harambee Stars was short-lived following a disagreement between him and FKF that saw him vacate the post after a few months in charge.
He later filed a lawsuit against FKF with Fifa who ordered the Kenyan federation to pay him KSh 4.5 million in damages in 2016. Unfortunately, Michel passed on in 2018 after suffering a prolonged illness.
The immediate former Harambee Stars coach is probably owed a lot more than what Michel was. However, like Michel, he has decided to stay around and wait for FKF to sort him.
Migne was hired on a Sh 2.5 million salary which would have seen him rake Sh 52 million as his contract was to run for 3 years. A compromise deal was, however, struck between the two parties, leading to the abrupt disruption of Migne’s stay.
