The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) has prolonged the suspension of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed and other senior officials, as an international probe by FIFA gains prominence in the dispute.

In a fresh ruling delivered in Nairobi, the tribunal extended interim orders that have blocked key decisions by the federation’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The orders suspending Mohammed, acting CEO Dennis Gicheru, and another NEC member will remain in effect at least until the case’s next mention on May 12.

The tribunal placed significant weight on an ongoing investigation by world football’s governing body, FIFA, describing it as a critical Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism (IDRM) directly relevant to the case proceedings.

The SDT also addressed overlapping legal proceedings, noting that a separate High Court order issued in Kiambu does not prevent it from continuing its work.

Established under Section 55 of the Sports Act, it emphasized that its jurisdiction has not been successfully challenged, clearing the way for the case to advance without delay.

To structure a fair hearing, the tribunal outlined strict procedural requirements. Respondents represented by counsel must serve their responses within three days, while the ninth respondent has four days to file and serve its papers. The applicant will then have two days to file any reply, with all submissions due no later than noon on May 12.

The decision underscores the tribunal’s determination to preserve the subject matter of the dispute and prevent any unilateral moves by the parties while the case is still being heard.

By extending the interim orders, the SDT aims to ensure that the eventual resolution is not undermined by actions taken in the heat of the conflict.
