The National Integrity Alliance, a consortium of agencies seeking to assert the national value of integrity and end corruption in Kenya, has blacklisted 20 high profile politicians from the August General Election over integrity issues.
The Alliance today presented a list of blacklisted politicians to IEBC and other members of the Chapter Six Working Group.
“The list was informed by reports from credible institutions and we have looked at the cases that are active in court,” said their leader Samuel Kimeu.
He said they were also guided by chapter 6 of the constitution.
The list is part of its Red card campaign. The big names on the list include: Kirinyaga Governor Jubilee nominee Anne Waiguru and serving governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Evans Kidero (Nairobi), Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Kenneth Lusaka (Bungoma), Okoth Obado (Migori), Mwangi Wa Iria (Murang’a) and Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay) as well as Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko.

Political leaders with questionable integrity records are likely to be locked out in the coming August polls if their campaign will be adopted by IEBC.
The National Integrity Alliance comprising of various civil societies launched the red card campaign recently to bar more than 69 political parties in the country from fielding illegible candidates to contest for any elective seat.
KNCHR moved to the Supreme Court with concerns about the integrity of politicians ahead of the general election on August 8.

The rights group sought an advisory opinion from the court on standards and guidelines that should apply to leadership and integrity.
It wants aspirants with questionable reputations barred from the election as many of those who won the just-concluded party primaries cannot pass integrity tests.
The list released today is bound to elicit sharp reactions from those mentioned and their parties/supporters. It will be a big blow to the candidates coming just a few months to the elections and having spent time and resources on their campaigns for nominations. It is, however, music to the ears of their rivals as it eliminates strong competition for votes.
