Former Deputy President and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua has asserted that he has never lost an election, saying this is evidence of his close alignment with the public will.

Speaking on a national television station on Sunday, he said his track record shows that the candidates he supports always win because he listens to the people.

Gachagua said that he never strays from where the people are, and that his fidelity to public interest has earned him trust. He claimed that when he backs a person, that individual succeeds because he takes time to consult citizens before making decisions.

“I am one Kenyan leader who never deviates from where the people are, I always align with the people and that is why I have never lost an election. Anybody I have ever supported has won because I take my time to listen to the people I have listened to the people and they have made a decision,” he stated.

He also challenged those who view him as part of Kenya’s political problem, saying that although some considered him a problem early on, he later became part of the solution.

He criticised remarks that his political focus is only on a group known as “Wantam,” saying that his use of the term is forced by popular demand.

“I have heard the president saying we only talk of Wantam, indeed it is not our wish to mention the Wantam throughout, it is the people who are forcing us, they do not want to listen to anything else,” Gachagua added.

Adding;

“I don’t know who these people are who see Rigathi Gachagua as part of the problem. Yes, at some point, they considered me one, but along the way, I became part of the solution.”

He argued that it is not his wish to mention Wantam constantly, but that the people compel him, because they are rejecting alternatives.
