NASA’s fundraising effort has received a boost from Kenyans in the United States who are using an online platform to collect funds to help the Opposition outfit in the campaigns for the fresh presidential election.
Over 206 people have already contributed to the account eight days since its creation to a tune of Ksh 2.079 million (US$20,790) as per the time of writing this story with the target being Ksh5 million (US$50,000).
NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga had appealed to supporters to contribute to the presidential campaign to help in the campaigns. Kenyans were asked to contribute through the Paybill number 991444 where people are encouraged to contribute as little as Ksh10.
The account was opened after the Supreme Court of Kenya nullified the presidential elections and it would operate until October 17 2017, the date of the rerun as set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“The stakes have never been higher. The Supreme Court has given us a lifeline. In order to win, NASA urgently needs our financial support to carry out an effective campaign and implement measures to get out and protect the vote. Therefore, we are appealing to you to join in and help deliver the victory to the people of Kenya. As diaspora, we want to make a difference, we want our impact in this election to be felt, and we want to contribute to the change that Kenyans long for. The Diaspora community is fired up and we truly believe we can do it because we have the will, motivation and commitment,” she wrote.
The fundraising campaign will end on or around the election date and the funds transmitted directly to the NASA/ODM presidential campaign bank account provided by the presidential campaign. The funds are to be used by the presidential campaign during the Election Day activities aimed at protecting the NASA votes and paying polling agents.
The account was created by Debra Akello, the CEO of an international consulting firm and executive director of Mama Sarah Obama Foundation, and is consultatively administered by Akello, Otieno Ombok, Dr Dan Mugubi, Beatrice Oduor, and Dr Sam Oyugi.
Those who support the cause in the diaspora are requested to make their contributions online at www.gofundme.com/for-the-change-we-want.
