Member of Parliament for Starehe and musician Charles Njagua (Jaguar) has been arrested over incitement remarks. Njagua was arrested on Wednesday outside Parliament Buildings by plain clothed police officers and loaded into a waiting car around 12:30 PM.

Yesterday, a video went viral on social media where the MP made xenophobic remarks attacking foreigners who are running businesses in the country.

The government distanced itself from the MP terming his comments as “unfortunate exploitation of the freedom of free speech to dehumanise foreign communities and incite local constituents undermines the welcoming culture that Kenya is reputed for, and has to be condemned”.

In the video, Jaguar is heard telling foreigners engaged in business in his constituency to shut down and vacate the country failure to which they will be forcefully removed. The police had said actions by the lawmaker amount to incitement.
