Shujaa named as global ambassadors for Kenya

Brand Kenya Board has inked a partnership deal with Kenya Rugby Union’s premium team Kenya National Men’s Rugby 7’s team, Shujaa in a Global Ambassadorship Programme that will run for one year.

In the partnership, the globally renowned Shujaa team will be brand ambassadors for Kenya carrying positive messaging about the country as they play in the various international and local tournaments. Shujaa is Kenya’s most successful Rugby Sevens team who draw a sense of national pride among Kenyans for their remarkable performances globally.

Kenya is known globally as a home of champions and the destination for sporting talent, thanks to its glowing track record in different sporting categories. Apart from athletics that has been Kenya’s forte and earned the country medals at the grandest stages across the world, Kenya also prides in excelling in other sporting categories.

Rugby is one of them. In the current series, Shujaa have been to the finals of the HSBC Rugby Sevens twice; in Canada and Hong Kong. On the local front, KRU has the Safari Sevens where the Kenya Rugby Sevens team plays and has been very popular amongst local fans.

“This partnership will provide Brand Kenya with the platform to engage both the local and international community with positive messaging about Kenya. Having Shujaa Team members as part of the country’s global ambassadors will enable the Board to activate a local and global campaign, given that Rugby remains one of the biggest social events in the world,” said Chris Diaz, Brand Kenya Board Director.

The team’s busy schedule includes the London Series tournament on 2nd and 3rd June, the Paris Series on 9th and 10th June, Men’s Africa Cup Series in Tunisia on 13th and 14th October, and the 2018 Rugby Worldcup Sevens in USA.

The team’s local circuit remains tight as well with tournaments in Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu and other parts of the county.

The Board‘s brand Ambassadorship program recognises individuals who embody the values and personalities that define the Kenya brand. It is a program aimed at selling Kenya to the world to attract tourism, trade and investments.

The Board will also be engaging other sporting disciplines and individuals who embody the values and personalities that define the Kenya brand through the program.
