Wilson Sossion is in no mood to usher in the New Year delightfully, he has a bone to pick with Teachers Service Comission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia over her decision to transfer 3,000 head teachers, Sossion will stop at nothing to get his point across including making sure that no public school will be opened until the government cedes to his union’s demands.
Breathing fire during a press conference on Wednesday, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General announced that the teachers strike will start on January 2 while expressing his rage over what he described as high handedness by the commission.
“Parents should adjust their budgets very well because Christmas will be extended into the New Year,” said Sossion during the press conference.
KNUT is protesting failure by the commission to promote teachers and the delocalisation of the 3,000 head teachers following the retirement of head teachers and principals who retired after reaching the mandatory age.
In a letter to Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani, Sossion alleged that the transfers were conducted without the approval of the TSC appointment board.
He termed the transfers irregular and wants the decisions reversed. The transfers however affected head teachers who have served in one station for more than nine years, the retiring teachers are expected to hand over to their successors by December 28.

On August 15, 2018 President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the commission to review a similar exercise after observing that the delocalisation program had broken up thousands of families.
“The program has created some unforeseen challenges that have, in some instances, affected families negatively. We are reviewing the policy guidelines to ensure that it is not implemented to the detriment of families,” Uhuru said in a statement posted by the Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU).
