Safaricom on Wednesday, December 9 opened the doors to its flagship store along Moi Avenue in Nairobi after four months of renovation.

The 10,000 square feet space was unveiled as Safaricom’s first digitized shop. It incorporates several unique features, including an imposing video tunnel at the entrance.

It further incorporates several digital interactive screens and device display screens for various phones and accessories.

The flagship store features airy, welcoming interior design and plush seats for customers, with the telco deliberately avoiding dreary set-ups common at banks and customer care centres.

It is the first of Safaricom’s 51 stores countrywide to have bulk M-Pesa transaction booths.

Notably, the store includes a Gaming Zone, and a Tech Zone offering same day after sales service for devices, down from the previous 7 days. It

It also has a training section to provide information products and services such as Home Fibre, Enterprise and Digifarm.

Present at the launch, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa noted that upgrades on the 14-year old shop were part of the telco’s plan to improve customer experience.

“Our promise to customers is to offer them personalized services and offer on- stop shop solution for all their needs.

“The growing demand for our services is driven by the need for customers to adopt a digital lifestyle. Our plan is to offer integrated solutions as part of our strategy to drive digital inclusion,” he stated.

It was the first time the shop was being renovated since opening in 2006.

The digitization upgrades are likely to be undertaken in the rest of Safaricom stores around the country. According to Ndegwa, it is key to offer integrated solutions as the company transitions into a purpose-led, customer-obsessed technology company.
