The Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) industry is among Kenya’s most lucrative sectors and has attracted massive competition.

As the competition intensifies, new companies entering the market bringing different catchy products to lure customers.

This week, a new company surfaced in the industry to provide a different gas and fuel solution to Kenyans. Safari Supa Gas was launched with a vision to be the largest affordable cooking gas solution provider in East and Central Africa.

In the recent past, there has been a combination of legislative bans and increased taxes on traditional fuels.

“We wanted to bring to the market a stable, quality source of fuel which would not only raise the social status of the lower-income urban households but would also go towards attaining Universal Health Care as part of the Governments’ Vision 2030,” said Flora Njagi, the head of business at the new company.

As a measure to tackle the immense competition in the market, the debutant gas company has introduced USSD technology. Customers will only be required to dial *873# before placing orders through Safari and its network of authorized dealers.

The USSD technology was also put in place to prevent retailers from hiking the gas prices. The platform ensures that customers shall receive offers where Safari will have dictated the price. The market price will always remain competitive.

Safari Supa Gas also promises its customers that its product is environmentally friendly. According to Njagi, LPG has a higher calorific value than traditional fuels and so cooking time is dramatically lower, leading to a lower carbon footprint.

The Company is currently focusing on 70% of all the households without LPG access.

“In fact, Safari Supa Gas would like to go from just raising awareness within the industry, to creating employment of community engagement officers, Boda Boda riders to and partnering with local distributors to ensure a seamless end to end delivery of gas,” Njagi noted.

Following regular complaints about companies selling gas cylinders that are underfilled, Safari Supa Gas signed agreements with licensed filling stations to ensure that the cylinders sold are to the required standards.

Competition is intense in the Industry and survival is only for the fittest. According to Safari Supa Gas, bringing in quality in the industry is what will make them unique from other suppliers.
