Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr Raymond Omollo has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering women, improving access to education and healthcare, and strengthening citizen participation as key pillars of national development.
Speaking during an engagement with women’s groups and residents in Suna East Constituency on Saturday, Dr. Omollo praised local women for organizing themselves into self-help groups and engaging in income-generating activities that are improving household livelihoods and strengthening communities.
He said women play a critical role in driving economic growth and social development, noting that investing in their empowerment translates into stronger families, better educational outcomes for children and more resilient communities.
The Principal Secretary also highlighted the government’s investment in education, noting that the sector continues to receive the largest allocation of the national budget. He said the recruitment of more than 100,000 teachers in less than three years demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring every child has access to quality education.
“We do not want any child to miss the opportunity to learn because of a lack of teachers. That is why the Government continues to invest heavily in education to secure the future of our children and our country,” Dr. Omollo said.
On healthcare, the PS urged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying the programme has enabled millions of Kenyans to access affordable healthcare without suffering financial hardship. He noted that more than 54 percent of Migori County residents have already enrolled and encouraged those yet to register to do so.
Dr. Omollo also welcomed recent reforms that have simplified the process of acquiring national identity cards, saying the changes have removed administrative barriers and improved access to government services. He urged eligible residents to register as voters, observing that nearly one million people in the Nyanza region possess national identity cards but have not yet registered to vote.
He called on leaders and residents to work closely with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to boost voter registration ahead of next year’s General Election, saying wider participation would strengthen democracy and ensure citizens exercise their constitutional right to choose their leaders.
The Principal Secretary further reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing security and improving service delivery, stressing that peace and stability remain essential for economic growth and sustainable development.
He urged residents to remain united, support government development programmes and continue working with leaders to accelerate the socio-economic transformation of Migori County and the country.
The meeting brought together local leaders, women’s groups and residents from across Suna East to discuss development priorities, public service delivery and opportunities for empowering communities through government initiatives.
