MISLEADING: Video Of Crowd Cheering Mudavadi Not From Vihiga

A video clip posted on Twitter by Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi showing ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi addressing a campaign rally in Vihiga County is misleading.

The video, posted on 6th February 2022, shows Mudavadi, who has teamed with Deputy President William Ruto of United Democratic Alliance (UDA), being cheered by a huge crowd. Abdullahi says in a short caption accompanying the video: “Vihiga today…Hon @MusaliaMudavadi is on very solid home ground…I like the guy!”

Ruto, Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula have come together under the Kenya Kwanza alliance and have been traversing the country to drum up support for the moment.

Investigations by Business Today, however, reveal, that the Mudavadi video clip shared by Ahmednasir on 6th February was, actually, first shared on Twitter by the ANC Party on 26th January 2022 when Mudavadi, DP William Ruto, and Ford-Kenya chief Moses Wetangula held a joint rally in Eldama Ravine, under the banner “Kenyans are happy! #EarthquakeInNakuru”

A check on the ANC party Twitter page shows a different video of the Kenya Kwanza movement in Vihiga County, the home of Musalia Mudavadi, posted on 6th February. In the video Mudavadi is seen addressing the crowd and chanting that he is “tired of supporting ODM Leader Raila Odinga.”

Verdict: The video shared by Ahmednassir as a clip of Musalia Mudavadi in Vihiga County is therefore misleading, as it was captured during the Kenya Kwanza rally in Eldama Ravine.
