Madaraka Day Preparations in Wajir 84% Complete

Preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir County are now 84 per cent complete, with the government expressing confidence that all critical works will be finalised ahead of the June 1 national event.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the government was satisfied with the progress made so far following an inspection tour of key facilities and ongoing works in Wajir.

“We are pleased with the progress made so far. The preparations currently stand at 84 percent and we expect that by between the 20th and 25th of this month, most of the key works will have been completed,” said Omollo.

According to the PS, the remaining works are expected to be substantially completed by May 25 to allow enough time for rehearsals, testing and coordination activities ahead of the celebrations.

The inspection covered the main celebration venue, infrastructure projects, parade rehearsals and supporting facilities being prepared for the national event. Parade training and coordination activities involving security and ceremonial teams are already underway.

As part of the lead-up activities, the government will also host a thematic week from May 25 to May 31 at Wagberi Primary School focusing on education, skills and the future, in line with this year’s Madaraka Day theme.

Preparations are also ongoing at the official residence where President William Ruto is expected to host a State luncheon for invited guests.

Omollo said hosting the celebrations in Wajir reflects the government’s broader agenda of promoting inclusive development, national cohesion and equitable distribution of national events across different regions of the country.

The PS also urged members of the public to observe the event schedule, noting that the programme had been arranged with consideration for midday prayers observed in the region.

“We encourage all attendees to be seated by 8:00 a.m. as the celebrations will begin promptly to ensure smooth flow of the programme,” he stated.

The government has invited Kenyans from across the country to join residents of Wajir in marking the national celebrations.

Omollo was accompanied during the inspection tour by Ummi Bashir, Ahmed Abdullahi and officials from various ministries, departments and agencies involved in organising the celebrations.
