Dr Katherine Getao has assumed office as the new Chief Executive Officer of the ICT Authority.

John Sergon, who is retiring from Public Service after a long and distinguished career, on Monday handed over the office to Dr Getao at Teleposta Towers.

Until her appointment, she held the position of ICT Secretary in the ICT ministry. Dr Getao had also held other senior appointments at the e-Government at the Presidency and also served in the United Nations as a member of the Group of Governmental Experts on Security in the context of ICT.

In a press statement sent to newsrooms today, the Chairman of ICT Authority Edwin Yinda said the Authority is confident that Dr Getao will bring immense experience to the office as a researcher, policy maker, and an ICT expert.

Yinda said Dr. Getao has contributed immensely in various sectors in the government, and singled out the spearheading of the Huduma Kenya Initiative that has brought a raft of government services close to the citizens, as well as made public service delivery accessible and efficient.

The Chairman noted that the role Dr Getao played during the formation of the ICT Authority in 2013, saw three entities merge into one in a seamless transition process.

“As ICT Secretary, she also spearheaded efforts that saw government integrate ICT into public service delivery and the realization of Vision 2030. Those efforts made members of the public in rural areas access government services,” he added.
