Online mall, Jumia, plans to hold the longest promotional sale in Kenyan history, with the 2017 edition of the Jumia Black Friday sale set to begin from November 13 and run for a month.

The decision to extend the promo period to a month was reached following an online survey conducted by Jumia in early September which revealed that Kenyans are waiting for commercial sales events such as Black Friday with 54% of respondents stating that they prefer a month of sales.

The second highest percentage of respondents –16%– voted for a 2-week sale duration while 20% a week of promotional sales. The remaining 10% of the people involved in survey favoured a 1-day promo.

Black Friday, the world’s biggest online shopping event, is set to excite shoppers as it unveils yet another milestone two years since its inception in Kenya by Jumia in 2015. According to the Jumia Kenya Managing Director Mr Sam Chappatte, this year’s Black Friday is projected to be four times bigger than the Jumia Anniversary sale held in June, which was twice as big as the previous year’s Black Friday.

“Unlike the previous two years when the promo lasted a day or two, this year’s edition is expected to be more exciting with plans already underway to ensure Jumia customers get the best shopping deals and experience for four consecutive weeks,” said Chappatte.

The Black Friday sale is expected to be an extension of a good run Jumia Kenya has had this year. In July, Jumia experienced its biggest month in terms of traffic as it was forced to shut down its website due to overwhelming demand. However, the firm expects to have three times much more demand on Black Friday than it had in July on its anniversary.

Dubbed ‘31 Days of Deals’, this year’s Black Friday will run for one month – from November 13 to December 13 – with shoppers being treated to sales and festivities with different deals being released every day.
