Investors shy away as NSE trading down Sh122 million

The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) recorded a drop of Ksh122 million on Thursday as against the previous day.

A total of 10.5 million shares worth Ksh346 million were traded as against the 19.9 million shares worth Ksh468 million posted on Wednesday. The Bond Market had bonds worth Ksh1 billion transacted.

The day also closed with the share price for NSE Plc trading at between Ksh17.10 and Ksh17.00 to settle at Ksh17.05 thus sustaining yesterday’s trading. NSE released its half year results on the day, recording a profit of Ksh133.7 million

NIC Group meanwhile which also released its first half results dropped by Ksh1 to close trading at Ksh33 as against Ksh34 recorded yesterday.

Sudden fall in trading at NSE raises eyebrows

The NSE 20 Share Index was down 39.64 points or 1.19% to stand at 3305.29 while the  All Share Index (NASI) declined by 0.65 points to stand at 173.31. The NSE 25 Share Index shed 27.15 points to settle at 4446.74.

Sectors Wrap

The Banking Sector traded shares worth Ksh108 million and accounted for 31.32% of the day’s
traded value.

KCB Group moved 1.59 million shares valued at Ksh76 million at between Ksh47.75 and Ksh48.50. Equity Group Holdings remained unchanged at Ksh50 and moved 259,000 shares valued at Ksh13 million. HF Group traded down 3.84% to Ksh7.50 and moved 759,000 shares worth Ksh5.7 million.

The Commercial & Services Sector had shares worth Ksh16.3 million transacted and
represented 4.72% of the day’s traded value. Scangroup recorded a 3.03% loss to close the
day at Ksh16 with shares worth Ksh15 million transacted.

In the Construction & Allied Sector, shares worth Ksh8.6 million were transacted and represented 2.49% of the day’s traded value. Bamburi Cement moved 47,000 shares worth Ksh8.55 million and closed at Ksh182.

The Energy & Petroleum Sector had shares worth Ksh7.6 million transacted and represented
2.20% of the day’s traded value. KenGen shares remained steady at Ksh6.55 with shares worth Ksh6.2 million realized.

Insurance Sector had shares worth Ksh12.9 million transacted and represented 3.74% of
the day’s traded value. Kenya-Re traded 536,000 shares valued at Ksh9 million at between
Ksh16.20 and Ksh16.90.

The Manufacturing & Allied Sector had shares worth Ksh100 million transacted and
represented 29.02% of the day’s traded value. E.A Breweries had 477,000 shares valued at
Ksh100 million transacted at between Ksh207 and Ksh210.

In Telecommunication, Safaricom moved 3 million shares valued at Ksh88 million at a fairly stable price of Ksh29. This represented 25.57% of the days traded value.
