Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has been in the headlines following the release of his book For The Record, chronicling his experiences in politics over the decades.

But outside the political intrigue that has characterized much of his life in the public eye, Duale is also a businessman with interests in real estate, hospitality and livestock among other sectors.

He placed his net worth at Ksh851 million in 2022, disclosing that he earns Ksh10 million in monthly rental income and owns 231 camels. Here, Business Today takes a sneak peek inside some of Duale’s investments in the hospitality sector.

Nomad Paradise Hotel Nairobi

Nomad Paradise Hotel sits on six storeys along General Waruinge Road in Eastleigh, Nairobi and is one of the largest in the area. The hotel includes 95 rooms spread across three wings. It also features a 60-seater restaurant on the first floor serving a variety of local and international cuisine. The ground floor also features a high-ceiling cafeteria serving light meals and beverages.

All rooms are furnished with sleek, modern fittings and guests can enjoy 24-hour room service. Rooms also feature wi-fi, electronic safe deposit boxes and satellite TV. The hotel also includes facilities for meetings and events, including boardrooms of different sizes.

Nomad Palace Garissa

Duale also owns Nomad Palace Garissa, one of the largest hotels in the North Eastern town. Notably, Duale is a former Member of Parliament representing Garissa Township.

Nomad Palace Garissa features 67 rooms with modern fittings and impressive Swahili-style architecture. It currently costs around Ksh4,900 to spend a night at the hotel. Nomad Palace Garissa also includes a restaurant. Guests at the hotel can additionally access high-speed internet, satellite TV, free parking, laundry, airport transfer, storage for their belongings and safety deposit boxes.
