Praxedes Tororey, the IEBC legal affairs officer, has reportedly retired from her post just two days after the Supreme Court delivered its full judgment on the nullification of President Kenyatta’s election. This despite the Supreme Court failing to point fingers at individuals over the nullified elections.

Her exit, termed as retirement, is being viewed suspiciously coming just a month the repeat presidential election, which has turned more focus on the IEBC.

Ms Tororey was one of the 12 officials of the electoral body that the opposition named and demanded their removal for allegedly bungling the election. NASA accused her of failing to advise the commission appropriately on the electoral laws and the procedures that would ensure a clean election.

The other senior officials singled out by NASA coalition of parties are CEO Ezra Chiloba, deputy CEO Operations, Beatrice NyabutoDirector of Voter Registration and Election Operations Immaculate Kasait and ICT Director James Muhati, among others.

In an internal memo, Mr Chebukati had ordered CEO Ezra Chiloba to suspend ICT Director James Muhati, ICT Coordinator Paul Mugo and ICT officer Boniface Wamae in what he termed as failure to assist the commission successfully discharge its collegial and constitutionally enshrined mandate.

“This suspension is necessary to not just restore the waning public confidence in the commission’s ability to prepare and deliver credible polls but also assert the integrity and fidelity of the commission to the rule of law,” read Mr Chebukati’s memo in part.

NASA has vowed that there will be no elections in the October elections, unless their ‘irreducible minimums’ are met, which has now been moved from October 17 to October 26.
