Governor Mutua orders Shalom Hospital in Machakos closed

The infamous Shalom Hospital, Machakos Branch has beed closed by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

Further, it’s Managing director Dr George Onyango has been arrested after residents demonstrated outside the hospital on Monday morning following death of a seven month old baby Ethan Muendo.

The protestors were demanding an investigation to the hospitals’ operations after rampant cases of unexplained deaths and poor handling of patients in the facilities.

According to reports, baby Ethan was under treatment Sunday morning when he was injected with morphine that may have led to his death.

Baby Ethan’s father, Jonathan Mutiso, who is a journalist with the KBC said a postmortem examination will reveal the cause oh his son’s death.

Governor Mutua gave the facility up to 6pm to to finish attending to outpatients and 24 hours to clear the wards and transfer admitted patients  to other facilities.

He further revoked the hospital’s business permit while the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDU) revoked its operational license.

This is not the first time the hospital has been accused of patients mismanagement as two weeks ago a woman was seen giving birth to a baby on the reception area while the nurses took tea.

The video that went viral on social media platforms led to the arrests of Shalom Community Hospital administrator Thomas Ndolo and nurse Edna Nyarange who faces professional misconduct charges at Mavoko law courts.

Mr Ndolo was remanded while Ms Nyarange was freed on Sh200,000 bond or Sh50,000 bail.
